St. Columba is pleased to welcome back Fr. Bryan Massingale, as we open our annual African American Celebration Series
on the weekend that we also recognize the birth of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the spirit of Dr. King’s commitment
to service, justice and equal rights for all, our Kwanzaa focus this weekend is Ujima, which means collective work and responsibility.
Author of Racial Justice and the Catholic Church, Fr. Bryan is a leading voice in the mission of dismantling homophobic and racist elements of the global catholic church.
Prior to his appointment at Fordham University, Fr. Massingale was a professor of moral theology at Marquette University
and also taught at the Institute of Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University, New Orleans. He has also served as a
consultant to many faith-based organizations, as well as president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and
convener of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium.
