"The most basic of all human need is the need to understand and be understood.
The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”
- Ralph G. Nichols”
The Listening Ministry"s focus is to be available to parishioners who need a listening ear—someone to call, someone with whom to share what's on their mind and what"s in their heart. Members are St. Columba volunteers who have a calling for this ministry, and who respect the privacy of all whom the ministry serves. We provide interested parishioners with a list of our ministers. You call, we listen. If you need someone to !hear” you, we are here for you, to listen in an open, caring, nonjudgmental way.
The Listening Ministry was borne out of a need to stay connected with parishioners during the onset of COVID. We canvassed for volunteers, and currently have a roster of 38. Our ministers are available to be called, and we make periodic calls to ~75 parishioners who expressed interest in being contacted. Annually, we conduct an Outreach Campaign via phone/email/text to make contact one-to-one with parishioners. As a result, we are often able to provide needed information and resources. During the Lenten Season, listening ministers are called upon to serve as Holy Listeners.
Our volunteers can choose from among various of our ministerial activities to help realize our mission of connectedness for St. Columba parishioners. We are aligned with the Health Cabinet and the Homebound Ministry.
