Deacon Larry Chatmon Featured AACS Speaker Sunday Jan. 22nd

St. Columba's African American Celebration Series continues this Sunday, January 22, with Deacon Larry Chatmon from St. Paul the Shipwreck Catholic Church as the Featured Speaker. Deacon Larry has over twenty-four years of progressively responsible experience in the non profit and government sectors with demonstrated expertise in management, administration and program development. He has served with the Bay Area Urban League, a civil-rights non-profit organization, where he began as a Senior Field Representative and worked his way up to become Vice-President of Programs/Operations. He is recently retired, after 16 years, with the City and County of San Francisco Department of Human Services where he successfully planned, directed and implemented the One-Stop Employment Services System and planned, implemented and managed the new Food-Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET) resulting in a 10-million-dollar yearly general fund savings for San Francisco. He attended Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota earning his BA degree, and is a Graduate of the Bay Area Social Services Consortium (BASSC) Executive Management Development Program -2004 (UC Berkeley) and has received a Certificate of Merit – Public Managerial Excellence Award 2003 from the Mayor’s Municipal Fiscal Advisory Committee and a San Francisco County Award for an Innovative One-Stop Electronic System – 2000 and is a past President of the Bay Area Association of Black Social Workers. Deacon Larry has been a member of St. Paul of the Shipwreck Catholic Church for 30 years and has served or is serving in the ministries of, RCIA, Lector, Eucharistic minister, Youth minister, Adult Choir, Finance Council, Ministers of Christian Service, Parish Council, Prison Ministry, Men’s Bible-Study group, Knights of St. Peter Claver, Art & Environment and Liturgy Committee. He was ordained in 2006 and has served or serves as a member of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, Diaconate Formation Advisory Committee, National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus- Executive Board of Directors, National Association of Black Catholic Deacons- Vice-President and various other community, civic and non-profit volunteer groups.
