NOVENA FOR RACIAL JUSTICE
Daily at 7:30 pm
In the Catholic tradition, a novena is a devotional prayer with a specific intention. On August 30 we will begin a novena dedicated to the end of racism, oppression, discrimination, and violence that affects people of color in our world.
We will be using for our prayer the Novena for Racial Justice from the Ignatian Solidarity Network that features holy men and women of the Catholic faith who taught us to embrace our faith and fought for racial justice in their time.
Participate:
To participate in the Novena and receive one email a day each day for nine days please register at https://ignatiansolidarity.
Daily 7:30 pm
Please join us for a communal experience of the Novena each day at 7:30 pm starting with an introduction to novenas on August 30, with Dale Sieverding, Director of Liturgy at St. Monica and ending on Labor Day with reflections from members of our parish community on how to translate our prayer into action.
If you have any questions please contact Delis Alejandro, Pastoral Associate, at [email protected]

POPE FRANCIS SPEAKS ON THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD
The pope's message to the U.S. was part of his address during Wednesday's general audience at the Vatican. Here's the full text of that portion of his remarks:
"I greet the English-speaking faithful joining us through the media.
"Dear brothers and sisters in the United States, I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd.
"My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. At the same time, we have to recognize that "the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating.
Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost,""Today I join the Church in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and in the entire United States, in praying for the repose of the soul of George Floyd and of all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism. Let us pray for the consolation of their grieving families and friends and let us implore the national reconciliation and peace for which we yearn.
May Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of America, intercede for all those who work for peace and justice in your land and throughout the world.
“Let us pray for the comfort of families and friends who are heartbroken, and pray for national reconciliation and the peace we yearn for.”"May God bless all of you and your families. "
